Federation of Master Builders (FMB)

The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association in the UK construction industry, representing thousands of firms in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Established in 1941 to protect the interests of small and medium-sized (SME) construction firms, the FMB is independent and non-profit making, lobbying for members’ interests at both the national and local level.

The FMB goes beyond simple checks and ratings. FMB members have to pass an independent inspection, have public and employers’ liability insurance & pass credit and director checks.

And we go further to provide ongoing training, contracts and warranty protection for the work. So whether you’re a Master Builder or a client dreaming of a masterpiece, you’re assured of a better experience.

Because building better means building trust. So as a member you know your business will be supported and promoted. And as a homeowner you will know you’re working with the right people.

Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS)

CHAS is established as the market leader in health and safety pre-qualification in the United Kingdom. A health & safety compliant business is a business that understands responsibility.

The responsibility it has to its people to help prevent accidents in the workplace and provide a healthy working environment, and the wider responsibility it has to help manage risk.

Constructionline is the UK’s largest certified pre qualification database, saving the construction industry over £500 million a year in administration. Already used by over 60% of local authorities, it reduces duplication and save time and money by encouraging organisations to use a single source for pre-qualification. Pre requisite to work for most local government bodies.

Constructionline provides a rigorous checking process, which ensures that our suppliers are qualified, so our standards are uncompromised. Registered information Company Details, Financial Records, Health & Safety, Insurances and Equality and Environmental policies., Anti bribery and Corruption, and Equal Opportunities.

Safety Management Advisory Services (SMAS)

In line with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Clients and Principal Contractors are required to ensure that anyone appointed or engaged to work on any construction project, has the skills, knowledge, experience and, where relevant, the organisational capability to do so.

This check can be done in house but can often be a costly and time consuming process. By adopting an SSIP approach to H&S assessments (supported by the HSE) and simply ensuring that a contractor holds a valid and in date certificate issued by an SSIP Member Scheme, you can be confident that the assessment satisfies the requirements of the SSIP Core Criteria and that a reasonable and robust judgement has been made that the SSIP standards have been met.

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP)

SSIP was founded in May 2009 following the Government report on Accelerating the SME economic engine: through transparent, simple and strategic procurement. Supported by the HSE SSIP aims to streamline prequalification and encourage straightforward mutual

recognition between its Member Schemes. SSIP is actively reducing health and safety assessment costs and bureaucracy in the supply chain, by making cross-recognition between member schemes as effective as possible, and highlighting the savings to buyers and suppliers. All SSIP member schemes have fully committed to the vision of driving unnecessary cost and confusion out of supplier health and safety assessment, and SSIP’s core philosophy is to enable effective cross-recognition between existing schemes.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

Our workforce includes time served trades men who have all obtained CSCS certifications.

CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry.

CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.
